Teaching Practice at SMA PASKALIS, What a Lovely Experience!

30 Sunday Oct 2011

I taught at SMA Paskalis, grade X. My guide teacher was Bapak Y. He was so friendly. That week, i only taught about two hours. It was pretty short chance. I tried to implement active learning, with jigsaw reading and some games that relates to learning mathematics. It was different and fun actually but it took times longer than it should be. But they accepted it as fun activities to do.

Do you know, how could I make them to be more motivated in learning? In the beginning of the lesson, I called the “Professor” from Germany and just got back to Indonesia to work and implement their knowledge. It was such story, that i embed to the learning activities. They were laughing and the learning become so fun, they pay attention to me:D

Here, i took some conclusion about extrinsic motivation. In the first time i met the students, i gave them promise for some kind of rewards. Actually, they were more motivated and involved with the learning process after I introduced them the rewards.  They did something for obtaining something else. In the other situation, I did some kind of “race” to them; they were more excited than with their real mathematics teacher. It was pretty extrinsic.

In the other hand, because my activities in those two hours was just different with their real mathematics teacher (usually lecturing). They wanted to understand the topic, but I embedded it in some fun activities, they got intrinsically motivated. They did it because they wanted to understand. It was some kind of bonus when they had to learn it with some fun activities.

I gave them challenge in the last session, to make a poster. With a clear instruction i gave to them, they promised me to do their best for making a very interesting poster. The poster was just kinds of project, they must find it by them self. When I relate to the theory the factor that relates to the intrinsic motivation, is a challenge. It was so right, when we gave them challenge, they were very enthusiast to do the poster. It was pretty fun to see them engaged in their activities.

i made them in group, so for the students who has different needs such as some students who has need for relatedness is facilitated.

In the theory I read about self determination, need for competence, some students did it in class. For some kind of issues they talk as if they knew, it was for the acceptence among their friends.

Some students has different background. Once after class, I talked to my master teacher. There was a student that never been appreciated in class in her junior high school.  So, she believed that her skill was just so so so, so she had never been had high expectation. So the theory was just right, students who believe they just not too good in something in past, in the future they would expect not too high. I mean there is a correlation between belief and expectation right?

So, i would just say that so many issues in class about motivation and anything. We as a teacher could just see the fact, observe, and maybe could get involved and tried to find solution. This motivation class pretty helps me alot in managing class and see the class from different perspectives. So what about you?

5th week Reflection: Motivate Students = Motivate Myself

Oh, this reflection will be different if compared to last reflection. If in the last, we always tell about learning process in the class, but now we will talk about our learning process in the “real field”. Yes, it is school. In the first week, I have no opportunity to enter the class and teaching practice to students because of students have mid-exam. Actually, this semester I have to go to a public school in Jakarta, it is SMAN 71 JAKARTA. The school is bigger than my senior high school and the facilitation is very complete. There is LCD and AC in every class, the rubbish placed well, the library and so on. Oh, teachers and staffs in this school also very welcome to me and my team.

In the first time, I got inform that I have to teach in grade 11 science programs. Oh, I was shocked because my friends got grade 10 and grade 11 social programs. Usually, in teaching science program the content material harder than social program. I was thinking that, how if I switch class with friends? However, I canceled my intention because I thought that when I will ready to teach? Oh, it is challenging for me. I try to collect my strength and try to motivate myself that I CAN TEACH in every condition.

Because of the school has mid-exam, so we were not allowed to come to class even for observation. So, we were staying in the library. Fortunately, my master teacher is very welcome and always gives advice. In the first day, he came to the library to meet me and my team. Then, he gives instruction to make a lesson plan and consult it. Oh, my team and I was surprise. He acted quickly. So, I made conclusion that “if my advisor in writing thesis like him, maybe I will graduate soon”. Not only about that, but also he help us in preparing the material to teach in the next week. Sure, I’m motivated him to do my best.

I think not enough to tell about his goodness in this moment. If you want, I will tell about him in another time. One day, he invited us to input the students’ score to the system. I thought that it will be beneficial for us because it is first experience and it is our opportunity to know students’ achievement in mathematics. Oh, in fact most of students didn’t pass. I try to find the reason, how can most of students have low achievement. What’s wrong? Is it about teacher? Is it about teaching method? I can’t guess it because I had not opportunity to observe first.

Based on master teacher’s explanation, students have low motivation in learning mathematics. From that information, I try to make a lesson plan which is appropriate with the class condition. I hope, students will be interest and feel comfortable in learning mathematics. I will do my best to motivate them. Motivate them equal to motivate myself. ^_^

This is 3rd teaching experiences. This semester I will teach at Tarsisius 2 Senior High School.

On Monday, when briefing with master teacher, he told us about the students background. He said that most of their students are come from broken home family. It makes me confused how to teach them especialy, he ask them do not angry to  them. It make me thinking more about my stategy to teach them. And the day coming.. Firstly,I am very nervous. When I come to the class with my master teacher, the students closed the door and then ask to the master teacher “You can’t come  in to this class, Ibu Cantik.. We dont want to learn.” You know what, I am very down when they said like that to the master teacher. I think they can do like that to my master teacher, so what can they do to me?? I am very afraid they can bully me more that they did to my master teacher. But the most interesting thing when my master teacher said to the teacher that they will learn not with her but with me, new teacher. They open the door then, and ask me to come in to the class. When I introduced my self to them, they listen to me and then I ask them to ask something about me. They ask about my status (my relationship status) and they ask about my phone number. Of course I didn’t give my number to them. Hahaha J After introduced my self, I asked them to introduce their selves to me. From that activity I know that my students very noisy, hyperactive, and really want someone to attention to them.

Then when the lesson was started, they look unenthusiasm, look very sleepy. They want to play the game till the end of the lesson. After explain about the matter, I divide them in to group. This group based on their performance at class till the mid term. ( I used mix ability group) Then I give the worksheet (I conduct this worksheet with guided inquiry) to derive the abc formula. In the first second, they look enthusiasm to work in group, but the rest of the time, they very busy with their own activity. Like disturbing their friends, and then chit chat with other. Then after that activity, I ask them to prepare their group to compit with other group. In that game I ask them to solve the problem as sson as possible to get the best point. Then if they are finish with the first problem, then can continue to the next problem, so on until the problems run out. An dthe winner (the faster and the most correct answer gat the reward) the reward is .. “ It’s secret. I will not tell you the reward or the punishment untill we finish this game.” I asked. Then one student said “ Ah Ibu main rahasia-rahasiaan, kalo gitu kita juga mau ngerahasiain jawaban kita.” I was very shock with her answered. But I ignored what she said. And the class end.

At kos-kosan. I think again about the stategy to teach them for the next meeting. And finally I get the solution. Want to know?? What have I done to those students?? I will tell you later.  Hehehehehe  J

This teaching experience is the most colorful, and the most challanging, and the moost impressive for me. Because, this is the first time I teach senior high class, and I got the challanging students than my collegues in the same school. I really enthusiasm to teach. And from the first meeting, it more motivated me to teach them, unmotivated students. And actually, they divide to the class based on their rank.  I just want they are success with their lesson, and they more confidance with their abilities. Because they know that they come from low ability class. I want them to believe that they are same with students in class A. That they are smart. Like I said to them.

for the next meeting, I will conduct activities so that they can more motivated in class.

My Super Exciting Teaching Experience!

23 Sunday Oct 2011

This is the first week of my two weeks teaching experience in this semester. I am very excited when I know that I am going to teach at SMA Tarsisius II.

Before officially starting my teaching experience weeks, I came to see the school and spoke to the principle. The principle is a very kind and wise man. He welcomes us very well. He explains to us the regulation and the dress code. This school has very strong belief that “teaching by heart is the most important thing”. He strongly remind us that during our teaching there we are not allowed to get angry at the students. I like this motto so much. I agree that teaching should come from heart not in any pressure condition. For the dress code for teachers here are very unique. It’s different each day: blue for Monday, red for Tuesday, yellow for Wednesday, any color for Thursday and the last one is Batik for Friday. He also gives us the standard competence and basic competence we have to cover during our teaching. One good thing is that He allows us to try any kind of methods we want. That is a great relief. I have planned many things in my head before coming.

I teach there with my colleagues: Eritha, Arum and Firzie. We four are all from Math Department. We are divided in two groups, Arum and I get to teach in Eleventh Grade Social Science Class. Both of us teach the same topic for two different parallel classes. So, we decided to work together in developing the learning materials and so on. Although all of us are supposed to do the teaching experience alone in the class, but I think discussing the topic together before teaching is a good practice for us.

Actually, we have to do observation before teaching. But, there is no much time to observe. So, our master teacher asks us to start teaching from the very beginning we come to the school. I am very glad that our master teacher is a very kind woman. She guides us a lot in every thing during the period. She always observes our teaching and gives us feedback each time we teach.

This time teaching experience, we are asked to also do a classroom action research. I didn’t get a chance to observe my class before hand. But, the principle is very helpful. He tells me some important information about my students. He says that these kids are mostly come from ‘broken family‘ so they need extra care here. These students are usually come to school without clear motivation on what they are going to be in the future. In other words, they don’t have dreams. I ask these matter to my master teacher and what she says are more or less the same as that.

I learn that my students probably have low motivation to learn in school. So I try to plan many activities to uphold that. I also consult my plan to my colleagues in campus and my lectures.

I am planning to make my students work in group and I want to see their motivation to learn during my teaching using this method.

I have there classes a week with them. Two of the class being on the end of the school day makes it becomes even more challenging. Imagine, studying Mathematics at that hour? They must be already tired. 😦 But, I have planned many things for them. I arrange my plan also on reflection of what happen in Arum’s class before. My class is scheduled after Arum’s class.

The topic that I taught on this week is Combination and Probability. Some activities that I have tried in the class are:

1. Domino Card Game

This game is made to help students recalling their prior knowledge before entering the new material. They really like playing this game 😀

2. Group Discussion
There are worksheet that need to be discussed in group. They have to complete the worksheet and the group score will be included on the TGT score.

3. TGT and Quiz
I introduce them the TGT (Team Games Tournament) system where every member is responsible to contribute for their group. So they have to make sure all of the members understand the material on the group discussion because there will be individual quiz in the end of the class. The quiz is also contribute to their group’s score for TGT score.

This is the standing position for the group’s klasement. By doing this, I hope that my students will be more engaged in the group activities because they will have goal in every activity which is getting more score to raise their group’ position. So, they are not only learning the lesson but also learn how to work together and compete each other.
Students are also asked to do “status update” before starting the class. This can help me to understand what’s on their mind at that time.

4. Volly Ball Game
I also prepared a game for them to assess their understanding on a topic. The game is a match between two groups. Each group hold their own questions list to be asked one another. Right answer will be awarded 100 points. Group with the highest score wins the game.

Their reaction to this method:
Overall, I see from their reflection in the end of each meeting that most of them enjoy learning with this kind of method.

Teaching is never simple. I have planned many things, but sure not all of my plan run smoothly. There always be some adjustment here and there when I apply it in my class. I have to always consider about their reaction. I can not force them to follow all my plan as I wish. I am still learning. I Hope that I can get more in the next one week. I love teaching! I LOVE MY CLASS! I even dream about my class and students these following days. 😀

How Nervous Make Me Forget the Material

This reflection is about my experience in the first week of my teaching experience program in one of private school in Jakarta. I would try to express what I feel, what happen and what I try to reflect in my self to improve my next teaching session. This semester, this program has some different thing compare with the previous program at the last semester. Now, each student will teach four times in a regular class. I have my own class and it means I will have same students for these four meeting of the class.

I began this program with observation session. I asked my master teacher to allow me observe the class situation. I tried to explain her that I was only observing the class situation and the student’s attitude toward learning not about her teaching method. The observation session started in the last class about 12.30 PM. I thought that it was not good situation because perhaps the students were tired and they could not focus with teacher explanation.

My prediction was true. When the teacher started the class, her students were so noisy. Some students were sleep. When one of the students asked teacher explanation, the teacher spends more time to explain the explanation to that student. While the teacher focuses to only one student, other students were busy with their own activities.

Based on this observation, I made a conclusion that this class is an active class. It is very important for me as a teacher to give them a way to express their activeness. I try to create a lesson plan based on my observation result. I considered that the class was a big class and I must focus to every student.

Based on my consideration, in my first meeting I decided that I should divide the students into some groups. I should apply cooperative and collaborative learning. Actually, I am not really confident in my first session, but I thought that I am still learning. My master teacher told me that it is okay if we do mistakes, because it is a process of learning.

I was so nervous! Very nervous! Show must go on. I have planned the class activities but I was doubt that It will work or not. I try to be calm and started the class. My students respond when I was introduce my self were positive. I told them that I come from Kalimantan and they were interested to explore more about my hometown.

Then I tried to explain the lesson about probability. In the first, I could explain well, but I didn’t know I felt really nervous. I didn’t realize that I gave them wrong concept. Absolutely, I must explain to them about “kejadian saling lepas” but I explained to them “kejadian saling bebas”. I said sorry to them and I felt really shame.

I try to reflect to my self that as a teacher we must have high confidence. When a teacher felt very nervous, he will very difficult to explain although he had prepared the material. I wish that I will give better performance in my next teaching.

They are beautiful in their own ways :)

They are beautiful in their ways 🙂

Oh oh oh… so many things that I want to share with you guys 😀 but sometimes, my head is running out faster than my finger T.T that’s why sometimes I need to talk directly than to write.

Okay, let’s start talking about Teaching Experience 🙂

The first observation…

–      In the beginning,

What do you think when you entered in to a class which that class had a very well organized, the students kept silent and gave all the attention to the teacher’s explanation, there was no student who operating handphone, almost there was no student who did chit chat, etc?

I just can say, -wonderful- haha 😀 and I found it, guys.

But my brain said….

“It’s so different with my previous experience in TE. This condition is desirable by almost all of teachers who like a –tranquility- (read: teacher who like to explain the material in front of the class with the students pay attention to the teacher, listen without noise or talk with friends).  But, this is the condition which is feared by the teacher who dislikes that tranquility alias teacher who likes the students doing -chit chat- (read: teacher who like the students discuss with friends, solve problem in a group, give opinions, conclude any conclusion by themselves than just sit in their chairs).”

–      Thirty minutes elapsed,

Yaps, this is a basic human needs sih ya –communicate each other-. Finally, after a long time in that silence condition, they begin issuing their actions. The action was not like you think –action-. Like other students as usual when they foud any difficulties in understanding what the teacher was explained, they started to –a little bit- did discussion with their peers. The more students did not understand the more students who did discussion. But again, that discussion was not like we known about –discussion-. The discussion that they did almost can we say –whispered-. Hehehe,, it is funny.

Finally, the teacher realized that there were many students who ‘discussed’. She tapped the marker to the white board so that students paid attention to her. The teacher explained again some parts which were not understood yet by the students with slowed voice rhythm, more steady intonation,   and more clear articulation. In the end, all students said that they already understand.

My brain said…,

”wow, it is a real well-organized class ya… 🙂”

–      Sixty minutes elapsed,

Teacher gave an exercise which was done by the students. This time, I was happy enough because the students did discussion again with their friends in solving the problem. The teacher also went around checking students’ understanding and also helping the students when they found any difficulties. I like this condition when the class was not quite enough and not noisy enough (read: average).

Teacher gave the next ten exercises…

–      Class hours completed,

The last exercise became homework.

My brain said…

“still the same with my experience in school. Last exercise become homework…:D and no comment about this :p”

The second observation…

–      In the first hour,

Teacher discussed the homework. She asked some students to go in front of the class and write their answers in the white board. After finish in writing, every student presented their writing, explained to their friends about the steps how they could solve the problem. The last student who presented, asked to his friends, “sudah paham kan?”, and almost all of students in the class said that “beluuuuumm….”, “ga ngertiii….”, etc. Teacher told the student to sit in his chair. Teacher explained again about the steps to solve the last problem. Teacher asked the students whether they understood or not and all students said that they do understood.  Awkward moment.

My brain said…

“The steps that the teacher explained were the same with the last student who explained. The language was the same, the arrangement of the words was also almost the same, the order of the steps were also the same, but why when with their friend, they said “did not understand” and with their teacher they said “understand” ??? awkward,, “

–      In the second hour,

In these 45 minutes left, teacher used the time for doing the remedial. There were only 3 students who could pass the test before. Loh? Just three? Yes.. just three 🙂

My brain said…

“In the previous observation, I saw that students could do the exercises well, they also said that they already understood, now why this condition could happen? :o”

I decided to interview the three of students who did not follow the remedial in outside the class. They said that they prefer the teacher who explained in front of the class then doing discussion with friends. They also said that the method that the teacher used was good and clear enough, easy to be understood. They said that they like mathematics. So, what’s the problem????

““I really could not understand how this can be happen T.T”

And my reflection was ended with a big question L I hope, I could find the answer and completed my reflection after I do the teaching experience by myself next week 🙂

Quote for today,

I do believe that, “Every student has their own ways to learn and understand something. They are beautiful in their own ways 🙂”

Reflection week 5 : Teaching Experience

In this week, we (SSE students) are doing teaching experience and Classroom Action Research. So, I will explain about my experience on my teaching in SMA N 44 especially that related with MMSEL course, about students’ motivations to learn.
Actually, in the first week in the SMA N 44, I only did observation in Social class and interviewed master teacher, Mrs. Santi. Unfortunately, when I was observe in social class, the class during mid test remedial. So, I can’t observe maximally. How the teaching and learning process, how teacher give students motivations to learn, how teacher guide students to follow her. But, I won’t my day in SMA N 44 is not get meaning. I try to find the other information how students raise their motivation to learn.
My friend, Shopia and I did interview master teacher. I asked to her, how to motivated students to learn. She said that, to motivate her students she has to know what the students need. For example if student not already yet to study, she can explain the story or give students information about anything. After, she gains students, and students already to learn, she can star to learn. Besides that, she said that she have to be like a friend for her students. It can make she become closer with her students. If students seem like bored to learn mathematics, she also can stop and back to story and make students relax. So, because of that, many students like Mrs. Santi. I also have interview students and they said that Mrs. Santi is a enjoy teacher. They said that, she can understand them.
I think that each person has a different way to motivate others. Also I have a different way how to motivate my students. Next week, I will do teaching experience. I will teach social class about Combination topic. I have to prepare my material well, also have to prepare how to motivate students. Because social class, based on my observation that social class is very “berisik”. Also, 75 % from members of students in 1 Social class has remedial in mathematics. I think that they lack of motivation to learn mathematics. So, it is can be my challenging. I prepare to do a something different way to teach mathematics. In the first, students watch video about Chance. It can gain students’ attention. After that, to started learning I will give students Problem in the first (PBL), I think it can stimulate students thinking. Then, I also use lecturing to give explanation. In the middle of lesson, I also prepare some ice breaking. Yeah, I hope it will make students not bored, understand the lesson also can motivate them.

my reflection during the School Experience

My Reflection in this time is quietly different from the previous reflection. Why? I did not learn in MMSEL class this week because of School Experience program then I have to go to the school. Although I did not learn in MMSEL class, I could learn a lot from the actual situation or circumstances that occur in the classroom. And I want to share with you guys through this paper.
I am doing school experience at one high school in Jakarta. let’s call it by “A”. In this week, I did three observations are in class XI of science, class XI of social and Class XA with two different teachers, let’s call them by Mr. P and Mr. Q. Mr. P teach in class XI of science and class XI of social while Mr. Q teach in class X-A. This observation is one of the duties of MMSEL. it is observations about the motivation of students in the classroom.

There is no special when I observed Mr. P because of mathematical topics in class XI is up. So, Mr. P only did recalling and gave exercises on topics that have been learned before. When I observed in class XI of science, the students were so enthusiastic about the exercises provided by Mr. P. Almost all students who totaled 22 people to respond even though only a little asking and answering. This situation is different with the case when I did observation in class XI of Social, from 34 students, 7 people are not present in class. Huh … what’s wrong? Where were 7 students? I did not ask Mr. P because I did not want to disturb him who was teaching. I thought students’ enthusiastic in this class was a bit lacking when compared to class XI of science because students want to answer when they were appointed, or asked to answer, they just shut up and chatting with friends.
Once out of the classroom, Mr. P explained to me about the situation in class XI IPS because I am going to do teaching practice in the class at the next meeting. He said that the students in class XI of Social is a bit low in comparison with the class XI of science, so I was asked to understand about it. In addition, he informed that there is an autistic student in the class but students are not included when I did observation earlier.
In the afternoon, I did observation in class XA, of course, the class is taught by Mr. Q. Before entering the classroom, Mr. Q said that “what will you see in the classroom is not a good example for you as a prospective teacher ….” I got confused with the intention of him but at that moment I could only conclude that every teacher has a style different teaching.
I was impressed when he put on a strategy of “Back Forward” when describing the material of the quadratic equation to the students. However I was surprised with the way he asked his students. I will not tell you in detail about this, but as an example: there was a student who asked to Mr. Q about his friend’s writing on the whiteboard. Mr. Q did not answer what was asked by the student but the teacher asked back to the student “What did you understand?” If I became a student, I would think twice if I want to ask Mr. Q. I would rather be silent than to ask because I already know that I will not accept the answer, otherwise I will get the question from Mr. Q. Hufh

That’s all for my story during the observation. I have not interviewed anybody. Thus, I cannot conclude anything about how the way of the teacher to motivate the students. What is your opinion about my story…???

Being in A social Class

My first week school teaching experience was the remedial period. During the remedial week, I only allow to observe in class, and find any data that perhaps needed. That’s quite surprising that I should teach 3 classes (tenth grade class, Eleventh grade social class 2 and 3) for the next week. My master teacher follows a training that makes her not in school for that week.

The contrast experience in this teaching experience was the class. I teach social class. I guess that I will be bullied at class, since I am too unique for the ordinary human.
“Guru nya koq kecil ya” that was the first voice that I heard when I entered eleventh grade social class in one of public school in Jakarta. Hufth, I keep smiling on this, and wondering what will happen next if I teach this class. Everything change my mind, after observing the class I saw that they are enough be motivated to learn math. I just getting curios how they can be motivated as I observed. After that, I interviewed some students who are smart enough in math (students who get out in class, after they finished the test). Their answer is because of the teacher. She teaches them with passion and patient. In case, teacher will re-explain the material when the students still do not understand. I truly want to find out their motivation in learning math. It is just because their experience through teacher modeling or not? I also want to know, how if I teach with different method that teacher suggests to me.

In this reflection, I also want to share my observation result that was so interesting. The test was begun at 06.50 a clock. The first hour class, student still gets calm in solving the problem. The second hour class, they were trying to look at friend’s answer. Once when the student in front of me asks his friend about the answer, then his friend ask him to write what he said. His friend said “the answer is h+e+h+e”. He just copied the letter, while I was laughing behind them. Suddenly his friend said, “hei, why don’t you think! You just copied what I said without thinking. Actually I have not gotten the answer yet”. So, I just find the students problem about their confidence in math. They consider that their answer is wrong, they do not have enough belief that they can solve the problem. Connected to the fact that the students in that class are quite motivated to learn math, whereas they do not have enough belief to solve the problem, so I want to do a small action research for this case. The purpose of the ARE is improve their confidence in solving math problem, whether doing with or doing does not with the teacher’s guidance.

Actually I really want the next week will be more interesting for teaching 3 classes, means six meeting in a week. I also hope my question to the problem of ARE was answered.

My 5th week reflection: School Experience

One of the differences between our campus and other campus regulation is about Teaching Practice in a school. Students in other campus usually get Teaching Practice in the school when they are in sixth semester, but in Sampoerna School of Education we have Teaching Practice in the school since we were in first semester, in every fifth and sixth week of each semester. And as previous semester, in this semester we do Teaching Practice in fifth and sixth week. So, this fifth and sixth reflection of MMSEL course will be talk about our experience in teaching practice that relate with Motivation and Management of Students For Effective Learning (MMSEL).
In this semester, I get the opportunity to Teaching Practice in SMAN 71 Jakarta which located on Duren Sawit Jakarta Timur. Every day we have to take three times of public transportation to get this school. It is so tiring actually.
Actually the students in this school were still doing midterm exam during our first week in this school, so we could not do any teaching practice in our first week. As a risk, we have to do all four times teaching practice in the second week, it will be make us busier and tire in the second week. Fortunately Namirah, teh Ulfah and I got a master teacher who really cares with us. His name is Pak Kemas Syamsudin M.si. We have already determined will teach in what class. I get two social classes that will be taught, such as XI IPS 3 and XI IPS 4. Pak Kemas told us that in social class, the students are noisier and lack of respect. Its look like they are not needs mathematics, and there is no intrinsic motivation in their self to learn mathematics. So, Pak Kemas reminds us to be more active and engage them in learning process. He also suggests explaining the material with real life examples because it could help their reasoning and imagination for the material which is delivered. That information is help us to prepare and think about what strategy and how is the best way to teach them.
We use this first week to prepare our teaching in the second week, we create the lesson plan and consult it with Pak Kemas. He also helps us to prepare the material, he has a lot of tutorial animation CD about all mathematics material, he said that this CD could help us in teaching even he has not ever yet use it when he teach. He lends a CD that related with our material and he suggests us to use this CD in teaching. I think our master teacher is very care with us 🙂
In this first week we also told about SAS (Statistic Analysis System) in this school by the master teacher. SAS is an online system in input student’s study result in each subject. The data (student’s study result) that input with this online system will accepted by Education Office (Dinas Pendidikan) in DKI Jakarta. Our master teacher told and taught us how to operate and input the data in SAS. He asks us to input the data about Mathematics daily exam in each class that we get. Namirah and I get the eleven grade social class. We were shock when we saw their daily exam result that we will input. In one of their math daily exam, in some class there was no student complete that exam. Their mark between 23 until 70 while the standard is 75. That’s happen in some social classes. It makes us reflect “what’s wrong with them? Or what’s wrong with the teacher? Or what’s wrong with mathematics itself?”
From what we have done in this first week, we could imagine the class that we will entered later. I think that I have to make good preparation before teach them. And how is my experience in teach them? Insya Allah will be told in the sixth week reflection of MMSEL 😉
I hope I can teach them well and my CAR is success. Aamiin..
